MT Base Linux Image Manual

This manual covers the MultiTaction Base Linux Image: the universal Ubuntu 24.04 LTS operating platform for current Hydra H2, H4, H8, H12, and H16 appliances, delivered on a self-contained Installer USB.

Engineering preview. This manual documents the target design of the Ubuntu 24.04 rewrite. Current builds are engineering previews using a development signing key; they have not completed hardware qualification and are not for production or customer deployments. Check the download page for what any given build actually supports before relying on a step described here.

  • Installation — writing the Installer USB, Factory Reset, Repair Installation, and first boot.
  • Operations — day-to-day use: the MultiTaction menu, networking, remote support, updates, and diagnostics.

What the Base Image is

The Base Image is one sealed, universal disk image shared by every current Hydra appliance. It contains the operating environment, qualified hardware drivers, a minimal configuration and diagnostics environment, and the capability needed to enroll in remote support. It does not contain MT Applications (Launcher, Canvus, Showcase, Canvus Server) or optional hardware drivers — those are installed afterwards as Approved Packages, once the appliance is on site.

Site-specific choices — display geometry, touch mapping, audio routing, and network roles — are never made by the installer. They remain Deployment Configuration, set by a technician after installation.
