Canvus Server

The backend that synchronises clients and stores canvases. Self-hosted on your infrastructure.

The recommended way to deploy Canvus Server. Download the compose file and follow the container installation guide for your platform (Linux, Windows, or macOS).

Download podman-compose.yml

This compose file pulls the :stable image channel from the MultiTaction registry. :stable currently resolves to 26.08.0.

To run pre-release builds instead, change the tag on all three images to :latest. :latest tracks the same builds as :dev, so it is a beta channel and is not recommended for production; it is not version-tagged, so check the digest you receive rather than expecting a release number. See Container image tags and channels.

The default compose file now installs a 26.08 server

:stable is 26.08.0, and Canvus Server 26.07 and newer do not accept clients older than 26.07. Deploying this compose file unchanged against an estate of older clients will cut them off. Read Upgrading to Canvus 26.07 first.

Standalone installers

Native Canvus Server installers with a bundled PostgreSQL 18 cluster — no containers and no Node.js. The web client and authentication gateway run in-process, and Canvus installs as system services (systemd on Linux, Windows Services on Windows).

When upgrading an existing standalone install we recommend uninstalling the previous version first; your database and settings are preserved. Migrating from Canvus 3.x? See the migration runbook.

Bare-metal (legacy)

All legacy server downloads: Windows 10 · Ubuntu 18.04 · Ubuntu 16.04
