Demo Games

Showcase has a set of demo HTML games you can put on the wall to show what a Web widget can do. Each game is a multi-touch game that several people can play at once by touching the same widget.

The games are Hosted Sites. They are supplied as ZIP files, so you import and place them the same way as any other Hosted Site.

Arcade or single game

There are two kinds of download:

  • Arcade (all games) is one site with a menu of all nine games. Choose it when you want visitors to pick a game themselves from one widget.
  • Single game is one site per game: Air Hockey, Carrom, Racing, Tron, Chase the Tail, Slime Turf, RoboWars, Catchapult and Outpost. Choose one when a widget should always show the same game, or when you want several different games on the wall at the same time.

All games work without an internet connection, because everything they need is bundled inside the ZIP. They keep no state, so closing and reopening a widget starts a fresh game.

Download

Download the ZIP files from the Showcase demo HTML games section of the Showcase downloads page. The files are named Games - Arcade (all games).zip and Games - <Title>.zip, for example Games - Carrom.zip.

Import

  1. Open Sites in the Showcase Editor.
  2. Select Upload site and choose the ZIP.
  3. Wait for the confirmation, then select Preview to check the game.

Showcase fills in the site name from the file name: Games - Carrom.zip becomes games-carrom and the arcade becomes games-arcade-all-games. Each site is served at /www/<name>/. In the arcade, each game is also available at its own address, /www/games-arcade-all-games/<slug>/, where <slug> is one of air-hockey, carrom, racing, tron, chase-the-tail, slime-turf, robowars, catchapult or outpost.

For more on uploading, updating and deleting sites, see Publish a Hosted Site.

Place a game on the wall

An imported site appears in the URL Library. Place it in a Web (browser) widget as you would any Hosted Site.

Widget settings

Setting Value Why
Mouse mode Off The games are multi-touch and expect touch events. With mouse mode on, a widget responds to one finger only.
Transparent background On The games draw on a transparent background, so the board floats on the canvas. With it off, a solid box shows around the board.
Frameless Optional Turn it on to hide the widget frame.

The games scale to any widget size, from about 400 px up to 2000 px and beyond. Make the widget larger for more players.

Requirement

On installs that use Showcase's built-in self-signed certificate, the player loads pages from its own server only from Showcase 26.09.14 onward. On earlier versions, a Web widget that points at the wall's own server keeps showing its loading spinner. The editor preview in a normal browser works on any version.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Fix
