Upgrading to Canvus 26.4.0

What changed

Starting with the April 2026 release, Canvus uses calendar versioning.

Version numbers used to encode feature milestones. Now they encode time: YY.M.PATCH. 26.4.0 means first release of April 2026. That's it. No hidden meaning, no compatibility signal buried in a major version bump. You see the version, you know when it shipped.

The underlying software is the same build process. The only thing that changed is the number on the box.

Before you upgrade

Canvus 26.4.0 maintains version interoperability with the 3.4.x line in both directions, so there is no hard requirement to upgrade every node at once.

  • 26.4.0 client → 3.4.x server: works. New 26.4 features that require server-side support stay dormant until the server is also upgraded.
  • 3.4.x client → 26.4.0 server: works. The client retains existing functionality but does not see 26.4-only features.

You can roll out the upgrade incrementally. The recommended order is server first, then clients — that way every client picks up the new feature set as it upgrades. Client-first also works; clients upgraded before the server simply wait for the server upgrade to exercise 26.4-only features.

Upgrade procedure

  1. Verify your maintenance entitlement and license cover the April 2026 release (see License compatibility below). Contact sales if you are unsure.
  2. Upgrade the server (recommended first). For containerised deployments see the Canvus Server installation guide; for bare-metal, run the new installer — it removes the previous version before installing.
  3. Upgrade clients individually as your maintenance schedule allows. Each client picks up 26.4 features as soon as it lands on a 26.4 server.
  4. Verify connectivity from each upgraded client to the server.

License compatibility

License compatibility depends on the license type:

  • Subscription licenses: continue to work against 26.4.0 with no change.
  • Perpetual licenses: some are tied to a specific major version and will need to be re-issued for 26.4.0. If the upgraded software refuses to validate an existing perpetual license, contact sales@multitaction.com for an upgraded license key.

What is not changing

  • Your data. Canvus 26.4.0 reads the same server data as 3.4.x. No migration required.
  • Your configuration files. No config changes are needed for the upgrade.
