Lock Widget

Desktop client only

This feature is available in the Canvus desktop client only. It is not present in the web-client touch UI. Operators using browser-based access will not see this feature.

Lock Widget lets you freeze individual widgets in place while keeping them fully visible. A locked widget becomes input-transparent: touches and interactions pass through it to whatever is underneath, while the widget itself remains on screen. This is useful for keeping reference material, background images, or fixed layout elements visible without them interfering with other content.

Locking a Widget

Every widget has a lock button in its title bar, to the left of the full-screen button.

  1. Bring up the title bar of the widget you want to lock (tap or hover over the widget).
  2. Tap the lock icon in the title bar.

Locked Behaviour

When a widget is locked:

  • Touches pass through — taps and gestures directed at the widget reach the content underneath instead.
  • The widget remains visible — the widget is still displayed on screen at its current position and size.
  • The title bar stays accessible — the title bar remains visible so you can unlock the widget at any time.

Unlocking a Widget

  1. Bring up the title bar of the locked widget.
  2. Tap the lock icon again.

The widget returns to normal interactive behaviour.

Use Cases

  • Reference overlays — keep a diagram or legend visible on the canvas while working on other content underneath it.
  • Fixed backgrounds — lock a background image or colour panel in place so it cannot be accidentally moved.
  • Structured layouts — lock layout guides or divider panels while users interact with content in the zones between them.
